Dr Robert Hensen undertook his early medical training in New Zealand and Western Australia before relocating to the Hunter region in NSW as a registrar. In 2007 he decided to pursue haematology, largely out of an interest in rapidly developing cancer treatments and a desire to support patients over the longer term.

He undertook advanced training at Calvary Mater Hospital, Newcastle, and Princess Alexandra Hospital, Brisbane, in clinical and laboratory haematology. He has since settled permanently in Brisbane to pursue private practice.

Dr Hensen maintains a broad interest in general, consultative haematology and haemato-oncology and is happy to take questions from the medical community regarding haematology laboratory results. He is currently involved in clinical trials research with the Icon Cancer Foundation, and has a particular interest in novel agents in lymphoma and myeloma therapy.Dr Hensen sees patients at our Icon Cancer Care Chermside and Wesley day hospitals and Icon’s Integrated Cancer Centre at North Lakes. He also travels to regional clinics in Hervey Bay and Rockhampton.
