What is neurosurgery?

Neurosurgery prevents, diagnoses and treats disorders of the nervous system, including the brain, skull, spinal column, spinal cord and peripheral nerves (nerves of the arms and legs). At The Wesley Hospital in Brisbane, our neurosurgeons treat and manage conditions that affect the flow of blood to the brain. As well as performing operations, they may be involved in your rehabilitation after treatment.

A Wesley Hospital neurosurgeon will help you and your family deal with and manage a range of conditions including:

  • Brain and spinal tumours.
  • Cerebral aneurysms and vascular abnormalities.
  • Chronic pain.
  • Degenerative conditions of the spine.
  • Head and spinal trauma.
  • Movement disorders (such as Parkinson’s disease).
  • Pituitary tumours and acoustic tumours.
