Four individuals and teams were also recognised for their commitment to safety and quality, education and excellence, through the Spirit of Wesley Awards:

COMMITMENT TO CLINICAL EDUCATION AWARD:
Angela Heslip – Clinical Nurse Educator

IMG_3368

Angela has established an education ‘drop-in room’ which runs one day each week for all nursing staff. This creative solution allows nurses to use any opportunity they may have to "drop in" e.g. before or after a shift in their own time, or during morning tea or a lunch break to complete a clinical competency or access education. Staff may also book time with an educator. Angela has extended the room to other clinical nurse educators, which allows them to make use of the space, its resources and equipment to educate and assess clinical competencies for their staff.  The ‘drop-in room’ now includes a fortnightly education session with guest lecturers. It's a wonderful sharing of resources, promotes the education department and its service, facilitates the building of relationships and sharing of knowledge between educators, and is an initiative that contributes to the hospital having well-educated and supported nursing staff to provide excellent, best practice patient care.

COMMITMENT TO SAFETY & QUALITY AWARD:
Stephen McCann, Fire Safety Manager and David Gray, Engineering Manager

Stephen McCann and David Gray have worked tirelessly to maintain the hospitals Fire Inspection Certificates. Through face to face training and record-keeping, the hospital has continuously achieved a fire training record of more than 90 per cent. Despite the age of the Hospital, ongoing maintenance has ensured a commendable fire inspection process. Stephen and David have worked together over a long period of time to ensure patients, doctors and staff remain safe.
