Information, forms and resources for GPs to refer patients for admission to The Wesley Hospital; and for VMPs to book patient admissions.





GP referrals

General practitioners (GPs) may refer patients for admission to The Wesley Hospital through a referral to an accredited Visiting Medical Practitioner (VMP).

  • Elective admissions

    Elective admissions are arranged through the office of an accredited VMP. In most cases, a GP would refer the patient for consultation in a specialist private practice, and from there an elective admission could be arranged if appropriate.

  • Emergency admissions

    Major specialties have an on-call roster of specialists to ensure there is always a consultant available to accept and treat acute admissions. However, patients may be referred to any accredited specialist with their knowledge and consent.

    The Wesley Emergency Centre is also available 24 hours, seven days a week to patients of all ages and is staffed with emergency medicine specialists. Patients may choose to directly visit the Wesley Emergency Centre independently or may be referred by their GP or Queensland Ambulance Service.

  • Wesley Emergency Centre

    Open 24 hours, seven days a week for patients of all ages.

  • Wesley Palliative Care

    Contact: 07 3232 7043

    Inpatient service. Offers a multidisciplinary and holistic approach to the care of patients and their families. Close links to community service providers.

  • The Wesley Hospital Choices Cancer Support Centre

    Contact: 07 3232 7064

    Free community support and wellbeing programs for anyone affected by cancer, regardless of where they are treated.

  • Pain Management Program

    Contact: 07 3232 6191

    Multidisciplinary outpatient program for patients with persistent pain for which no further surgical or medical treatments are indicated. Includes Back Rehabilitation Program.

  • Wesley Cardiac Rehabilitation Program

    Contact: 07 3232 6190

    For patients with or at risk of heart disease. Monitored, supervised, individual programs with family education and support provided.
