Admitted programs

The Wesley Rehabilitation Centre has a range of allied health professionals and rehabilitation programs to assist you in your recovery.

Injury rehabilitation

If you have had a significant musculoskeletal injury that does not require surgery, we can help you. Under the guidance of our rehabilitation physicians and professional team of physiotherapists and exercise physiologists, we can facilitate your recovery to restore day-to-day function, return to work, or enable you to do the things you love.

Our rehabilitation programs are individually focused and provided one-on-one. With our fully equipped gym, we can guide you through the early stages of recovery to later stages of rehabilitation and help you to achieve your goals.

In many instances, our rehabilitation programs are supported by private health funds to allow you to focus on your recovery and wellbeing without the burden of ongoing financial costs. We are also pleased to offer outpatient services for those patients without health fund eligibility. For further information, please contact the Wesley Rehabilitation Centre.

Persistent pain management programs

Our allied health professionals provide group-based programs for people with persistent pain, in collaboration with pain medicine physicians. Our programs are aimed squarely at helping you manage your condition and regain control over a quality of life affected by long-term pain.

The Wesley persistent pain management programs are for people who have:

  • Persistent pain that is limiting their lifestyle and ability to perform everyday tasks.
  • Been unable to return to their full work duties or usual activities.
  • Have no further surgical or medical treatments planned at the current time.

Our Persistent Pain Management Programs are group based, usually with six to eight participants. They use the skills and expertise of physiotherapists, exercise physiologists, occupational therapists and psychologists to help you to achieve the best outcomes.

We aim to:

  • Improve your physical function.
  • Facilitate a return to your daily activities or work duties.
  • Improve your ability to manage pain.
  • Promote a reduction in the use of medication to control your pain.
  • Increase your self-esteem and confidence.
  • Improve your understanding of your diagnosis.

You will receive a comprehensive discharge report with outcomes and recommendations for future management.

If you are interested in attending our persistent pain management program, you first need to meet with one of our specialised pain physicians. Learn more about our pain physicians, including their areas of interest and contact details, here.

You will require a GP or Specialist referral to one of our pain medicine physicians, who will discuss the program options during your initial consultation. Your individual private health fund provides support to access our persistent pain management programs but this will vary depending on the fund and your level of insurance. We also accept enquiries from WorkCover Queensland (workers’ compensation) and third-party insurers.

Cardiac rehabilitation

Cardiac rehabilitation is an exercise and education program for people who have suffered an acute cardiac event, been recently hospitalised and have a medical referral to the cardiac rehabilitation program. Your individual private health fund provides support to access our pulmonary rehabilitation program but this will vary depending on the fund and your level of insurance. Oncological (cancer) rehabilitation

Our cancer rehabilitation program is a multidisciplinary program, tailored to your assessed needs. It focuses on education and an individually tailored functional and exercise-based program.

What we know:

  • Being physically active and exercising regularly is important for the health, function, quality of life and potentially survival of people with cancer.
  • Currently the majority of people diagnosed with cancer do not meet exercise recommendations.
  • People with cancer express a desire to become and stay sufficiently active but need advice and support to do so.

  • Improve tolerance to oncology treatment.
  • Reduce the severity of oncology treatment side effects.
  • Reduce the chance of disease recurrence on completion of treatment.
  • Provide education related to management of specific conditions with adaptive and preventative strategies, for example, how to best manage side effects and the benefits of physical activity.
  • Maximise safety and therapeutic effect through education and a prescribed exercise program.
