The Wesley offers the most comprehensive urology services in Queensland, especially for the treatment of prostate cancer. Located on one campus the Wesley's urologists, medical oncologists and radiation oncologists work together to provide evidence based treatment for prostate cancer.
The Urology Unit plays an integral role in the Wesley’s commitment to excellence in
cancer care.
Prostate cancer detection
The Wesley offers an innovative MRI technique, called a multi-parametric MRI (mpMRI), for prostate cancer detection. This Australian first has been shown in a
world first trial to significantly decrease the need for biopsies and increase the accuracy of the diagnosis of life-threatening prostate cancer. The trial was conducted by Senior Wesley Urologist Dr Les Thompson and Dr Rob Parkinson from
Wesley Medical Imaging. For more information on this prostate screening option, please contact one of our urologists.
Prostate cancer treatment
The Wesley offers prostate cancer patients a range of treatment options including
robotically assisted prostate surgery as well as high and low dose brachytherapy. In consultation with their urologist, patients have access to the treatment option that is most appropriate for them. These services are further complimented by specialised nursing staff, including prostate cancer care nurses, and a dedicated urology ward in the Wesley’s East Wing.
