Leanne on 'leaving a legacy'
A reflection during National Palliative Care Week from Chaplain Leanne Duncan:
I have been a full time Ward Chaplain at the Wesley Hospital for three years; for the past two of those years I've been responsible for Pastoral Care on the Oncology and Palliative Care Wards.
The circumstances faced by patients and their families on a palliative care journey brings unique challenges. Embracing one’s mortality brings an invitation to share in a variety of conversation and challenges that are as unique as each patient and their family, largely dependent on individual values and priorities of the patient.
I value sharing the journey with patients and their families as they work to discover meaning and purpose, in the midst of the need to reframe the meaning of life and ‘leaving a legacy.’
