Information, forms and resources for GPs to refer patients for admission to The Wesley Hospital; and for VMPs to book patient admissions.
General practitioners (GPs) may refer patients for admission to The Wesley Hospital through a referral to an accredited Visiting Medical Practitioner (VMP).
Elective admissions
Elective admissions are arranged through the office of an accredited VMP. In most cases, a GP would refer the patient for consultation in a specialist private practice, and from there an elective admission could be arranged if appropriate.
Emergency admissions
Major specialties have an on-call roster of specialists to ensure there is always a consultant available to accept and treat acute admissions. However, patients may be referred to any accredited specialist with their knowledge and consent.
The Wesley Emergency Centre is also available 24 hours, seven days a week to patients of all ages and is staffed with emergency medicine specialists. Patients may choose to directly visit the Wesley Emergency Centre independently or may be referred by their GP or Queensland Ambulance Service.
