The Wesley Hospital Graduate Nurse Program
As a Wesley Graduate, you will be part of a world renowned healthcare team, learning in one of Australia’s most complex and high acuity tertiary hospitals. As one of the country’s most iconic not-for-profit hospitals, the Wesley has been delivering personalised care through life’s journey for generations of Queenslanders.
At the Wesley, we’re proud of our reputation for graduate support, retention and success, which has become a benchmark for other programs within the industry.
Specialised clinical rotations
The Wesley offers a 12 month program, consisting of two 6 month rotations, and where you will have the opportunity to consolidate your skills across several specialities – broadening your experience, and setting you up for success.
Three streams to consolidate your skills:
General Nursing Stream
- Acute Medicine
- Cardiology & Vascular
- Coronary Care
- Palliative Care
- Women’s Health & Plastics
This program allows new graduates with dual nursing and midwifery registrations to work across all areas of midwifery, including: labour ward, post-natal and special care nursery; and complete a general nursing rotation.
Operating Theatre (Scrub/Scout) commencing first rotation and offered as full year placement only.
Pathways to Critical Care
After completing your graduate year, you will be eligible to apply for a position in ICU or Emergency.
Together, you’ll go places.
The Wesley prides itself on providing career opportunities in over 35 clinical specialities. We’re in it for the long haul, which is why we’re committed to your ongoing career development and why our program consistently achieves over a 90% retention rate.
All of our programs are permanent opportunities, meaning you won’t have to look for a job after you finish your program. You can apply for the areas you completed placement in, or look to try something completely different.
As a tertiary hospital we recognise the importance of continually learning and developing as individuals – it’s even one of our values. We partner with the University of Tasmania to provide our people with the opportunity to further themselves through a range of postgraduate courses.
We also offer scholarships and bursaries to continue your professional development long after your program finishes.
Genuinely supporting you to succeed.
Graduate study days, education sessions, formal courses, workshops and supernumerary hours are just some of the ways we support you in your Graduate year.
Most importantly, we offer educators, leaders and team mates that genuinely care from the heart about your success. Some have been supporting and educating others for over 20 years – so they have a good understanding of what you’ll experience your first year in the real world.
