What is clinical genetics?
Clinical genetics involves the identification of genetic mutations that lead to disease processes. It includes the management of patients with hereditary disorders or syndromes that can be passed on from one family member to another. If you are affected by, or at risk of inherited conditions, your Wesley Hospital clinical geneticist will provide appropriate genetic investigations and management strategies for your personalised care.
A clinical geneticist is a doctor with specialist training in diagnosing and treating genetic conditions or disorders such as:
- BRCA gene mutations.
- Chromosome disorder.
- Cystic fibrosis.
- Growth disorders.
- Haemophilia.
- Huntington’s disease.
- Muscular dystrophy.
