Gastroenterologists at the Wesley provide a full range of services relating to the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of disorders of the oesophagus, stomach, small bowel, colon, gall bladder, liver and pancreas.
The Wesley has one of the largest facilities in Australia, and has sub-specialty interests in all areas of gastroenterology, working with some of the latest endoscopic equipment for all forms of endoscopy. Services include ‘routine’ day patient and in-patient diagnostic and treatment, gastroscopy and colonoscopy as well as many challenging interventional procedures such as luminal and biliary stent placement, ERCP and EUS (endoscopic ultrasound), capsule endoscopy and balloon enteroscopy. Most gastroenterologists will provide consultative practice. We are also a tertiary referral centre across the entire state of Queensland, as well as across Northern New South Wales.
Conditions treated include:
- Oesophageal diseases, including Barrett's oesophagus and oesophageal cancer
- Gastrointestinal cancer
- Diseases of the pancreas
- Hepatitis B/hepatitis C and other liver diseases
- Biliary tract disease (gallstones)
- Inflammatory bowel disease, including Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis
- Malabsorption and malnutrition diseases
In 2010, the Wesley launched a new state-of-the-art Endoscopy Unit with four fully integrated procedure rooms, including electronic reporting systems and image capture devices.
