At The Wesley Hospital, our focus is on treating and caring for people with compassion across life’s journey. This means consideration of the whole person, not just their physical health. We offer a range of services to support the spiritual, cultural and emotional wellbeing of our patients and their families.

Pastoral care services

As part of our commitment to holistic care and spiritual wellbeing, chaplains regularly visit each ward and are available to support patients and their families. Priests and lay people are also available to visit members of their denominations. Please ask one of the nursing staff to arrange a visit when needed.

There is a chaplain on call at all times for emergency situations. Holy Communion is available on request and Baptisms are available in emergency situations. If you have any enquiries or comments regarding pastoral care, please contact the Pastoral Care Manager or ask the Clinical Nurse Manager in your ward.

The Wesley Hospital Chapel

The Wesley Hospital Chapel is on Level 2, near the Main Entrance of the hospital, and is available at all times for reflection and prayer. The chapel serves the Wesley Hospital community and is a quiet and sacred space.

Chapel services

A short devotional service is held in the Chapel each weekday at 10am. This service is also broadcast for patients on the Pastoral Care channel on the television in their room.

Holy Communion is celebrated at services on Wednesday (Catholic Mass), Friday in the UnitingCare tradition and, as requested, at the bedside. On Wednesday morning, a Catholic Mass is held in the Wesley Chapel instead of the regular devotional service.

If you would like to attend these services, please speak with one of our nursing staff.

Pastoral care TV channel

This channel broadcasts chapel services for patients on the television in their room, and at all other times, relaxing music and meditative images, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Visits, prayers, anointing rites, and sacraments are available. A bereavement folder is available from the ward or Pastoral Care after a death.
