Milestone achieved for Wesley Hospital’s Centre of Excellence
Brisbane’s Wesley Hospital has been recognised as Australia’s first Centre of Excellence in Robotic Surgery and a Queensland first in Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery by international accrediting body, the Surgical Review Corporation (SRC).
The Wesley Hospital is dedicated to being a leader in care, innovation and medical technology. The Wesley’s pursuit of excellence has now been internationally recognised by one of the world’s leading medical accreditation agencies, SRC.
General Manager, Michael Krieg said this achievement is a significant milestone for The Wesley’s longer term vision to put Queensland and The Wesley on the world stage as offering the latest advancements in medical technology.
"We are incredibly proud of this recognition, which demonstrates our overall commitment to the pursuit of excellence in health care and the significant investment we are making in medical technology.
"Receiving Centre of Excellence accreditation means The Wesley Hospital can further focus on exceeding clinical expectations and benchmarks; providing highly specialised care for Wesley patients so they can live their lives to their fullest.
"Not only does the Centre of Excellence accreditation endorse the Wesley as a world leading hospital, putting Queensland and Australia on the map, it also positions the Wesley as a thought leader within a global medical community. This provides the opportunity for us to work with other leading private robotic hospitals worldwide, opening opportunities for our robotic surgery team to create partnerships with some of the most prominent global leaders in medicine and technology.
"The team spent several months preparing the submission to satisfy the rigorous assessment and review of processes, care and patient journey outcomes - from diagnosis to post-operative care.
"This recognition is an incredible honour and a true testament to the work of our exceptional robotic teams for their outstanding capabilities and expertise," Mr Krieg said.
With only 10 hospitals worldwide to receive the accreditation in 2017, The Wesley Hospital joins other world renowned hospitals, such as the University of Illinois Hospital and Northwell Health Huntington in the United States and Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein in Brazil.
The SRC is the largest surgical organisation in the world which sets the benchmark for surgical procedures worldwide and provides accreditation, consulting, education and data for surgeons and facilities to advance safety and quality of care for patients.
The Wesley Hospital has also been recognised as only the second Australian hospital to receive the Centre of Excellence in Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery by the SRC, reflecting its high standard of health outcomes and excellence in care.
The Wesley Hospital has had more than 4,000 robotic cases performed since 2010 and continues to lead excellence in robotic surgery.
