Wesley Emergency Centre (WEC) has received a generous donation of 40 pairs of Crocs for their nursing staff to change into during their shift. 

The donation was made by Crocs Shop Cleveland owner Danielle Core, in response to a Facebook community post by WEC’s Clinical Nurse Manager Fiona Frew. 

“I had posted on the ‘Adopt a Healthcare Worker’ Facebook page, asking where I could purchase ten or so pairs of Crocs for our department,” said Fiona. 

“I was overwhelmed to receive a Facebook message from Danielle, sharing her family’s experience at The Wesley and offering delivery of 40 pairs of Crocs to our hospital.” 

Danielle said she felt happy to be able to give back to The Wesley, after they saved her mother’s life last year. 

“Mum went into Intensive Care (ICU) on 25th August and came out 36 days later - flu that ended in Sepsis. I understand she is quite famous for surviving,” said Danielle.

“She finally came out of The Wesley at the end of November. We are very grateful to the wonderful team who kept her alive and were my only company for a while. We think about them and our time in ICU often. They are all living angels.”

The donation will help Wesley Emergency Centre nursing staff to reduce the spread of germs during COVID-19.

“This kind donation means that staff can change out of their own shoes, and into Crocs at the beginning of their shift; before changing back into their own footwear to return home,” said Fiona. 

“Crocs are ideal as we can disinfect them at the end of each shift, ready for the next roster of staff to use.”

Fiona said The Wesley is very thankful for the many donations received from the community.

“One of our physiotherapists has also dropped in a donation of Crocs from his mum. And these are only two examples of the many items we’ve received. We are so very grateful.”
