Dr Melsom is an Orthopaedic Surgeon whose specialty area is hand and upper limb. He has particular interests in microsurgery, trauma reconstruction and joint replacement. Dr Melsom graduated from the University of London in 1990 with a degree in immunology, and then in medicine from the University of Bristol, UK.
In 1998 he completed a Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons, also in Bristol. In 2004 he completed his FRCS (Tr & Orth). He then went on to complete Fellowships at the Pulvertaft Hand Centre in Derby, Hand fellowship in Nottingham, UK. After arriving in Australia in 2006 for the upper limb Fellowship at the Princess Alexandra Hospital, Dr Melsom was then awarded his Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2010. He is currently the Director of Orthopaedics at Ipswich General Hospital.
Dr Melsom has professional memberships in the following organisations: Queensland Hand Surgery Society, Queensland Shoulder Society, Australian Hand Surgery Society (pending), British Surgery Society of the Hand, Australian Orthopaedic Association (pending), Australian Medical Association.
